Four teachers collective have been conducted in the January to March period in the working clusters. These collectives have enabled the teachers in identifying concepts for their schools and in making a detailed plan considering context of their classroom environment. In these collectives, the teachers have also identified the capabilities that they would like to enhance through concept facilitation. Teachers collectively prepared learning activities to be conducted in whole group, learner group and individual practice time based on children who are at various learning levels.

Extending the Learning Environment Beyond the Walls:  

Outdoor activities help making learning a fun-filled activity. If devised properly, it can help the children in getting a better and more practical picture of the world and can also make the near-by community a partner in the learning process of the children. Prajayatna believes in such a learning process and encourages its teachers under the Kalikayatna schools to devise such activities for their students. 

In January, teachers of GLPS, Honniganahalli asked the learner group to collect information about various facilities that the village people had obtained from the government through its schemes and programs. The children had prior experiences of conducting such surveys. They prepared a questionnaire with the help of the teacher and successfully conducted a door to door survey in the nearby area. The survey revealed that only 80 houses among 154 in the village had toilet facility.   

The result of this survey was shared with the Block Education Officer who was also responsible for the entire block as its Executive Officer. He was keen on ensuring that every house had a toilet in the village. Seeing the results of the survey, he sanctioned funds to those houses which did not have toilets, as a result of which 60 houses got them built.

This kind of exercise not only makes various concepts clear to the children but gets them to put their learning to good use and utilize it in a practical manner. It also gets the local community involved in their learning process. It results in the community helping the children in their learning process, besides promoting openness in the community to share information.

Preparation of evaluation materials:

Evaluation provides feedback to the teacher if the approach adopted to teach the child is effective or not. It helps the child to interpret the understanding of what is being learnt in the form of answer to the question. This in turn helps the teacher to adopt effective strategies for making his / her students learn more meaningfully. A selected group of teachers were identified to be part of the preparation of evaluation materials. Teachers had a comprehensive discussion and prepared worksheets / questionnaire containing questions pertaining to the different concepts facilitated to the children in the cluster. The  questionnaire paid attention in involving various capabilities such as listening, speaking, reading, writing, basic mathematical operation, color, design, pattern, money, coloring, painting, understanding, analyzing, consolidating, sharing etc, which was required in the children in the age group of 6 to 10 years.
